New Parking Meter Rates:

Bylaw Enforcement Officers report some common misconceptions by the general public regarding the new City of Nelson parking meter rates. Some of the most frequently asked questions are:

Q: "What do we do with our quarters since the meter no longer take quarters?"
A: The parking meters still take quarters but now you only receive 15 minutes of time when previously you received 30 minutes.

Q: "The parking rates have doubled so have the fines doubled as well?"
A: The parking ticket fines are $10 if paid within 14 days.  After 14 days, the fine is $25.00.

The motoring public is reminded to carefully read the parking meter before depositing any coins. Parking time limits within the City of Nelson range from 15 minutes to 4 hour meters. Meters will still accept quarters, $1 coins or $2 coins but you will only receive the maximum parking time limit identified on that particular parking meter. Effective April 4, 2011 all parking meter within the City of Nelson have been recalibrated to reflect the new rates.
