Is this program sustainable?

Council is launching this program with circularity and sustainability in mind. Through the purchasing process, both the City and the manufacturer have committed to sustainable practices throughout the span of the program. This includes:

  • Comprehensive lifecycle analysis (evaluation of the environmental impact of the product)
  • Mandatory sustainability criteria built into the RFP process
  • Post-consumer responsibility
  • Overall emissions reductions considering embodied carbon embedded within the appliances and bins
  • Engaging with local retailers to supply accessories.
  • Local repair program
  • Refillable carbon filters
  • Modular design, so when one part needs to be replaced you don't need to discard the entire appliance
